Onsite Occupational Health Advisor
Kays Medical is seeking a highly organised and qualified Occupational Health Advisor to join our team.
The Onsite Occupational Health Advisor (OHA) will be responsible for delivering a full range of Occupational Health services, including comprehensive case management and health surveillance. The role involves supporting the health and well-being of employees by providing expert advice, conducting health assessments, and managing occupational health cases in accordance with company policies and relevant legislation.
Key responsibilities:
Case Management:
- Manage a caseload of employee health cases, offering advice and support on fitness for work, rehabilitation, and return to work plans.
- Conduct occupational health assessments and provide guidance on managing long-term illness, workplace injuries, and absences.
- Liaise with HR, Health and Safety and Line Managers, and external healthcare providers to support employees and facilitate return-to-work programs.
- Provide written reports with clear recommendations based on assessments and clinical judgments.
- Maintain accurate, confidential records of all case management activities and health outcomes.
Health Surveillance:
- Deliver and coordinate health surveillance programs in accordance with health and safety regulations and industry standards (e.g., COSHH, Noise, HAVS, etc.).
- Conduct regular health surveillance, including but not limited to hearing tests, lung function tests, vision screenings, and other relevant health surveillance activities.
- Ensure compliance with statutory health surveillance requirements and monitor trends in employee health data to identify areas of concern.
- Provide advice on health risks and implement strategies to mitigate occupational health hazards.
- If required manage any escalations from OH nurses and technicians. Giving advice and coaching as appropriate
Risk Assessment & Health Promotion:
- Provide expert advice on workplace health risks, including ergonomic assessments, and offer solutions to mitigate risks.
- Collaborate with management to develop and implement health promotion and well-being programs (e.g., mental health, stress management, smoking cessation).
- Participate in workplace assessments, including display screen equipment (DSE) assessments and other risk assessments.
Policy & Compliance:
- Ensure all occupational health services are compliant with relevant legislation, company policies, and best practices.
- Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of occupational health policies, procedures, and protocols.
- Provide training to employees and managers on occupational health topics such as health surveillance, absence management, and well-being.
Reporting & Monitoring:
- Prepare regular reports on health surveillance outcomes, sickness absence trends, and other occupational health indicators.
- Analyse health data to identify trends and make recommendations for proactive health interventions.
- Work closely with the HR and Health & Safety teams to monitor workplace health standards and ensure a healthy working environment.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential
- Registered Nurse- with a qualification in Occupational Health (Diploma/Degree in Occupational Health Nursing).
- Having a current and valid entry on Parts 1 or 3 of the Nursing and Midwifery Council register
- Have experience/ knowledge of working within an Occupational Health role, preferably as an OH Advisor in delivering case management and health surveillance in a similar workplace setting.
- Strong knowledge of relevant legislation (e.g., Health & Safety at Work Act, Equality Act, Data Protection Act).
- Experience in undertaking face to face and telephonic assessments
- Effective Report Writing Skills – Ability to produce clear, concise, and professional reports
- Effective IT skills
- Excellent Communication skills
- Proficient in using occupational health management software and other digital tools.
Additional Requirements:
- Flexibility to travel between multiple sites if required.
- Ability to undertake onsite health assessments and surveillance activities in various workplace environments.
