Another tonic for Speke as Kays Medical open new £4.5m HQ

Kays Medical, in Speke, are one of the UK’s largest independent Occupational Health providers, and medical and emergency response first aid trade suppliers. With over 40 years’ experience, Kays have been supplying organisations with the products needed to protect their most valuable resource – their people.

Kays Medical, a Liverpool based company for over 40 years, had humble origins as an independent pharmacy, in fact, they still operate 3 pharmacies to this day but their business has grown significantly beyond this, leading up to the construction of a state-of-the-art 3 storey office block and high bay warehouse.

The development is situated on a prominent plot at Estuary Business Park, next to the busy Speke Boulevard A561 ring road. The site was previously occupied by a part of the original Liverpool Airport facility.

Williams Tarr Construction won the design and build contract for this new £4.5 million HQ office and warehouse facility, the 50,000 sq. ft. scheme will provide a new access road and service yard, 70 car spaces and dense landscaping to the site boundaries.

David Wilkinson, M.D. of Williams Tarr Construction commented: “We were really pleased to win this excellent new HQ facility for Kays Medical. We perform well on contracts like this that require extra attention to detail and quality.”

Architects, Denovo Limited, have designed striking office elevations with expanses of curtain walling, brise-soleil and a feature main entrance portico. Warehouse elevations will have a matt white composite cladding system and the warehouse interior will be zoned for storage of different products.

The new, larger premises have enabled Kays Medical to create an easily accessible, onsite Occupational Health facility, offering greater support to businesses in the local community. It also supports the company’s strong commitment to employee health and well-being, enabling the creation of a truly ‘inspirational place to work’ – somewhere that could be enjoyed by employees, and visitors alike.

The expansion of the business has also led to an increase in staffing levels, with Kays Medical recently hiring for a variety of job roles including account managers, sales & customer service roles, as well as occupational health professional roles.

Looking to the future of Kays Medical, Aaron Clements, the General Manager adds

“Witnessing the growth of Kays Medical over the last 12 months has been exciting and something we are all proud to have been involved in. From setting up our Occupational Health division to watching the build of our new, multi-purpose premises, Kays Medical has gone from strength to strength and continues on its journey of becoming the complete occupational health provider for all our customers, old and new.

Of course, the road to great success can be tough but we are confident that with the work of our dedicated team, partnered with our innovative products and services, we have the tools needed to achieve our vision – supporting the physical & mental health and wellbeing of not only Kays Medical employees, but the wider business community of Liverpool”.
