Frequently Asked Questions

To make a management referral, you need to discuss the reasons and objectives of the referral with your employee, obtain their consent and provide relevant information about the employee’s health, work, and absence history.
You can then submit the referral form online or by email, and the Kays Medical team will contact you and your employee to arrange an appointment for the assessment. The assessment can be done face-to-face, by phone, or by video call, depending on the availability and preference of the employee.

The questions you ask in a management referral should be specific and relevant to the employee’s health and work situation and the advice you need to manage the case. Some common questions that managers may ask in a management referral are:

  • Is my employee fit for work?
  • When is my employee likely to become fit for work?
  • What can be done to assist an early return to work?
  • Is a graduated return to work programme appropriate?
  • What sort of modifications or adjustments may be required?
  • Is there an underlying medical condition that explains my employee’s absence or performance issues?
  • Is my employee’s health problem likely to be work-related or aggravated by work?
  • Is my employee eligible for ill-health retirement?

After the management referral, you will receive a written report from the team at Kays Medical, which will include the answers to your questions and any recommendations or suggestions for managing the employee’s health and work situation.
The report will also be shared with the employee unless they request otherwise. The report will be confidential and will only be disclosed to other parties with the employee’s consent or if there is a legal or ethical obligation to do so. The report will help you make informed decisions about the employee’s case and support them in the best possible way.
